Upload JPG, PNG or WebP. Download as PNG (lossless, keeps transparency) or JPG (smaller file, no transparency — corners are filled white). A browser decodes more than it officially lists: GIF, BMP, AVIF and ICO samples all load in Chrome, while TIFF fails to decode — both measured on this site and written up in the rotate guide.

How rotation is calculated

A rotation by a multiple of 90° is a permutation: every pixel is copied to a new cell and nothing is interpolated. On our 3000×4000 test photo, a single 90° turn moved 0 of 12,000,000 pixels by even one level. The corners are exact because the turned frame is the same rectangle, swapped.

Any other angle is a different operation. The turned image no longer fits its original rectangle cell for cell, so the browser resamples: it invents values between pixels, and the area outside the original frame is filled with the background you picked. This tool keeps the original dimensions in every case — a 90° turn of a 3000×4000 photo stays 4000×3000, and a 37° turn stays 3000×4000 with the corners painted.

One more thing about the file: a JPG download is re-encoded on export, because a JPG cannot store the result losslessly after any pixel-level operation. Measured on our test photo at quality 92, a single re-save moved 25.6% of pixels by more than 2 levels; a PNG download stores the exact result. The protocol behind those numbers is on the rotate guide.
